JKA grading in Mandeville

The head international division of JKA, Bred Korras, said there were participants from across the country.

The Japan Karate Association (JKA) National Black Belt grading attracted 150 karatekas to the Mandeville Sports Club on Saturday last week.

The head international division of JKA, Bred Korras, said there were participants from across the country.

Korras also has a dojo in Edenvale.

He said there were different dans (levels) of black belt grading.

“This is our annual event. It important for karatekas to go for grading as it shows you where you need to improve to get to the next level. Your dojo can grade you until the brown belt level, but for a black belt you have to go for the national grading,” he said.

He said that event was one of the highlights of the year.
