Malvern’s Try Again FC were lucky to secure a win through penalties during their game against Denver’s Seven Stars FC.

The match was played at the Rhodes Park Sports Grounds on March 16.

Seven Stars FC were the more dominant team, enjoying the lion’s share of possession and creating more scoring chances than their more fancied opponents.

Seven Stars’ passing game seemed more organised and it was surprising that they failed to take advantage and score an early goal. Despite the many attempts at goal, poor finishing let them down.

Try Again FC were more patient, defending deep and hoping to catch Stars on the break. Stars absorbed the pressure well, defending in numbers.

The game was not short of entertainment, as Try Again FC kept displaying their silky skills on the ball, a trait they are known for. But good football does not win matches; goals do.

Towards the end, the match turned into a scrappy affair as both teams desperately tried to secure the winning goal. It was not be, as the full time score was 0-0.

This saw the match progress into the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Seven Stars FC were the first to miss a penalty, setting the tone for what was come. A few misses later, Try Again FC won the match 3-2.
