Elias wins PnP Marathon

Elias Mabane was the men’s winner of the Pick n Pay 42 kilometre marathon on Sunday, February 9.

Elias, who runs with the Nedbank Running Club, finished in a time of 2:30:29.

The race started and finished at Saheti School in Bedfordview.

Elias was followed across the finish line by Samuel Mashishi from Fitness Africa, who finished in a time of 2:30:58 and Mthetho Mntungwa who finished in 2:32:45.

The Rand Road Warriors placed well at 24, when Reanan Naidoo crossed the line in a time of 2:52:47.

The women’s 42 kilometre marathon was won by Gillian Sieling from the Nedbank Running Club.

She crossed the finished line in 3:02:27.

Gillian was followed across the finish line by Julanie Basson from the Toyota Athletics Club in a time of 3:05:52 and Funeke Zaula from the Makana Athletic Club in a time of 3:12:08.

Lindy Benson from the Bedfordview Country Club finished fifth with a time of 3:22:47.

The winner of the men’s 21 kilometre road race was Leswene Africa Mailola from the Nedbank Running Club, who finished in a time of 1:09:26.

He was followed closely by Sipho Ncube from Mr Price, who finished in a time of 1:09:52 and Karabo Nkalhela from the Cool Running Athletics Club, who finished in a time of 1:13:29.

The Bedfordview Country Club finished well, in the top 20, with Jabulani Nkabinde crossing the line in sixth place in a time of 1:14:31.

Jabulani was followed by fellow Bedfordview athletes Sam Bolo in ninth, with a time of 1:15:54, Tony Silva in 16th with a time of 1:19:272 and Jock Bartolo in 19th with a time of 1:23:05.

The Nedbank Running Club’s Alemtsehay Hail Kakissa won the women’s 21 kilometre race in a time of 1:19:50.

She was followed across the finish line by Judy Bird from the Breakthru Midrand Striders in a time of 2:29:34 and Salome Brits from the Toyota Athletics Club in a time of 1:33:02.

Denleigh Wilenshy from the Bedfordview Country Club finished in 23rd place in a time of 1:46:38.
