Sixes go flying for charity

A rainy public holiday did not deter Bedfordview Last Man Stands (LMS) cricket teams from taking on a charity cricket day at the Modder Sports Complex.

“All the teams which participated played in true LMS spirit,” said the event organiser and LMS franchise owner, Claude Oosthuizen.

Despite a few hiccups on the day, due to heavy rains, approximately 80 percent of the scheduled games were played.

The final was played between OS2 and Fireballs, with Fireballs taking the win as well as the R3 000 in prize money.

Spectators were entertained by music from Pizzazz Entertainment and Karaoke Connection.

Boerewors rolls were on offer during the day from Sharon and Korneel.

“We also need to say thank you to Dougy, who prepared the pitches for the day, and the cover boys and girls who constantly ran the covers on the pitch when the weather would not hold up,” said Claude.

He added that charity events would be planned again in the future.

“We have a winning formula and at the next event we aim to have upwards of 20 teams, so that we can really make a bigger difference to the charities we nominate,” said Claude.
