Amateur MMA fight night comes to Mandeville

Fighting Fit-EFC Africa development athletes, Cassim Khusu, Joseph Phutiagae and Onameditse Dikgomo, from Botswana, will also be competing on the night.

Make sure you get to the Mandeville Indoor Sports Arena on November 16 to see some of Africa’s biggest amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) matchups.

Jasen Van Der Merwe, fighting out of World of Warriors in Edenvale, will take on Tumisang “The President” Madiba in FightStar 5 for the featherweight championship belt.

Jasen is a well-rounded fighter with amateur boxing experience and devastating ground and pound abilities. Jasen took to the MMA scene with a solid stand up base and picked up on his ground game quickly to secure his current amateur MMA record of 5-2.

Speaking about the fight on November 16, match maker Grant Oliff said, “Fightstar just keeps raising the bar when it comes to amateur MMA on the African continent. With athletes competing from all over South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, Fightstar has truly become an international promotion.”

Fighting Fit-EFC Africa development athletes, Cassim Khusu, Joseph Phutiagae and Onameditse Dikgomo, from Botswana, will also be competing on the night.

Santa-Marie Venter from Pretoria will be back in the Fightstar Hexagon facing Iris Rodrigues from Namibia.

Pietro Cignoli, the Fighting Fit Africa programme director, said, “These guys have been training hard and come fight night, they will be ready for anything their opponents have to throw at them. FightStar gives these amateur athletes the platform to showcase their skills to EFC Africa scouts in the hope of one day competing in Africa’s biggest professional MMA promotion, EFC Africa.”

Mandeville is located at the corner of 10th Avenue and 7th Street in Bez Valley.

Tickets are R150 each.
