JVW champs rewarded

The Janine van Wyk (JVW) Girls Schools League ended its second successful year with the Schools Finals Day at the Modder Sports Complex.

The JVW Girls Football Development group was started last year by current Banyana Banyana captain, Janine Van Wyk, to help improve, develop and expose women’s football from grassroots level.

The development programme consists of a Schools League, club structure as well as development trainings.

Development training sessions are held every Saturday at the Modder Sports Complex and all girls are welcome.

The Schools League consists of 52 teams, and is made up of U/15, U/16, U/17 and Open age groups. The league has over 960 girls actively playing at school level.

A prize giving event took place after the final games. Winners were awarded for their hard work throughout the league’s season.

The league and cup winners were:

The U/15 winner was Reddam House and the runner up was Shangri-la Academy.

The U/16 winner was Sacred Heart and the runner up was St Stithian’s Girls College.

The U/17 winner was Hoërskool Vorentoe and the runner up was Jeppe High School for Girls.

The Open Division 2 winner was St Francis College and the runner up was Parktown Girls.

The Open (private schools) winner was Marist Brothers, Linmeyer, and the runner up was St Stithians Girls College.

The Open Division 1 winner was Benoni High School and the runner up was Jeppe High School for Girls.

The U/15 Cup winner was Reddam House. Hoërskool Vorentoe won the U/17 division and Benoni High School won the Open division.

The JVW 2013 Player of the Year was Amanda Mthandi, of Hoërskool Vorentoe.
