Local gymnasts excel at SA Games

Local gymnasts from the Edenvale-based Gym Masters Gymnasts and Masters Gymnasts Clubs recently participated in the annual South African Gymnastics Games.

Gymnasts from the two clubs made up a large portion of the Eastern Gauteng representation in the acrobatics and trampoline disciplines.

The SA Gymnastics Games 2013 were the toughest in over a decade and all gold medallists earned the title of South African Champion.

Edenvale trampoline gymnasts won a total of four gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.

Eight Edenvale acrobatic groups were placed first while four groups came second and three groups achieved third place, which equated to 19 gold medals, eight silver medals and six bronze medals.

Gymnasts who competed in the SA Gymnastics Games qualified through various competitions in order to earn the right to compete in the games.

High performance acrobatic gymnasts will now take part in trials to represent South Africa at the next World Championships and World Age Group Games.

The gymnasts practice at the Highway Gardens Community Centre and are coached by the Demianenko family and assisted by Michelle Sharples.
