Kensington beats Veterans

Striker Che Ntum scored four goals when the Kensington Football Club beat the Hillbrow Veterans 6-3 on Sunday last week.

The two met at the Rhodes Park Soccer grounds for the friendly match.

Kensington had the upper hand in the first half, with Ntum scoring two goals and Divine Chi scoring one. Weyn Libota netted one for the Veterans. This led to the game going into the break with Kensington leading 3-1.

Veterans came back from the half time firing on all cylinders. A goal was scored within the first two minutes of the second half, with a third being added 10 minutes later.

Veterans’ coach, Bakala Wilfred, was forced to substitute one of his players, after he sustained a finger injury.

“This affected the whole plan and rhythm. On top of that, the boys were also tired. We started to let Kensington into our half again. They were then able to penetrate our back line and we made silly mistakes that cost us the game,” said Wilfred.

He added that he and the whole team were unhappy with some of the referee’s decisions. He said that also had an effect on the moral of the team.

Kensington’s coach, Terence Fondoh, said his boys became complacence and thought they had won the game.

“In the beginning of the second half, our middle field lost concentration and this affected the whole game plan. I had to change it and we achieved the desired results. I told them to put the ball down, hold it and use the spaces that were created,” said Fondoh.

Two more goals were scored in the final five minutes of the game by Kensington in the second half, putting the final nails into the coffin of Hillbrow.
