Blackbelt Martial Arts Academy Bedfordview scoops medals in championships

Bedfordview’s Blackbelt Martial Arts Academy won 52 gold, 47 silver, and 17 bronze medals at the recent ATA South Africa Championships.

The Blackbelt Martial Arts Academy Bedfordview (BBMA) made a remarkable impact at the ATA South African Championships 2024, held in Pretoria from September 27-29, winning an impressive total of 52 gold, 47 silver, and 17 bronze medals.

On October 25, owner and instructor Sabumnim Marissa Katz successfully passed her final midterm grading, qualifying her to test for her 5th degree black belt in the USA in July 2025.

Saturday was another thrilling day for the club’s instructor, Sabumnim Faiyaz Khan, who was honoured with the prestigious title of National Instructor of the Year 2024.

Together with Katz and eight of their students, they achieved African Champion status in the tournament of champions.

Khan and Katz expressed immense pride in their students’ achievements and acknowledged the dedication, hard work, and commitment shown throughout the year.

“At BBMA, our focus is on ensuring students learn self-defence and traditional ATA Songahm Taekwondo,” said the club owners.

“Alongside our international curriculum, we run the ATA Life Skills programme, which equips children and adults with valuable skills for everyday life and their future, ensuring they build confidence, perseverance and respect.”

• Martial arts children (7-12 years)

• High rank and blackbelt classes
