Community enjoys Boroughs of Bedfordview run

The Bedfordview community and the race organisers supported the 5km fun walk/run. Bedfordview Athletics will donate R25 000 to Better Bedfordview from the runners’ donations and the net proceeds from the 5km race.

The Bedfordview Athletics Club hosted a successful Boroughs of Bedfordview run on September 22. Participants braved the cold and wind to enjoy a 15km or 5km run through the beautiful suburb of Bedfordview.

Race organiser Charnia Yapp congratulated the winners.

The top three male runners (15km) were Andries Sesedi from the Nedbank Running Club CG, in second was Charles Tjiane from the Maxed Elite CG and securing third place was Bongani Dlamini from Entsika AC.

The community came out in numbers to support the Boroughs of Bedfordview race.

The top three female runners (15km) coming in first place were Kate van Jaarsveld of the Nedbank Running Club CG, Tebogo Mokgosinyane (of the same club) secured second place, and third place went to Christina Silale of Boksburg AC.

The race proceeds were donated to Better Bedfordview.

Better Bedfordview is a not-for-profit civil society organisation that cleans, tidies and improves the area and creates employment. Caring and community-spirited residents and businesses fund it.

The race organisers were grateful that they fixed the potholes on the race route, painted the road markings and kept the pavements clean and tidy.

“Bedfordview Athletics extends warm thanks to the sponsors, service providers, volunteers from our running club and community, schools and businesses,” said Bedfordview Athletics.

The event received donations and prizes from BMW Bedfordview, Marine 8 Specialised Security, 32Gi, Switch, Anita Active Sports Wear, Funky Pants, Afrihost, Redfern Labels, Milo, Shield, Reactive Wellness, Wagondrift Lodge Spa and Game Farm, Laundramax, and these tenants at the Bedford Shopping Centre: Fournos, Hashtag Scape, Sarugh Persian Carpets, Sorbet, The Daily Coffee Group, The Luggage Company and Vencasa.

The runners painted Bedfordview in colour when they took to the streets.

“Thanks to our water point sponsors Remax One at the first point, Harcourts Kempen, Better Bedfordview and RAG at the second one and BMW and St Benedict’s College at the third water point. Thanks to the Bedfordview CPF for assisting with the marshalling,” added Yapp.

These service providers ensured a well-run event: ABI, ASM Safety Consultants, Donald Maathipa, B-One Toilet Hire, Easy Waste, the EMPD, Dial-A-Medic, In-Detail Advertising, Lodge Security and Peak Timing.
