Titans aim to maintain a winning streak

Edenvale’s senior reserve baseball league winners Titans set out to continue their winning streak on August 18 when they faced Alberton’s Southern Stars in Edenvale.

The home team set their sights on also bringing home the vup title.

The only other senior reserve side to accomplish a win in both titles has been Randburg’s Mets.

From the onset of the game, Titans knew that defeating the Stars would be no easy feat.

Taking the field at the top of the first innings Titans were given a small insight into just how tough the game would be when three players were struck out without a single player making it to base.

At the bottom of the first innings Titans were determined to return the favour and despite Stars getting one player on base the visitors also failed to score any runs.

After securing the title of league winners recently, the home team set their sights on also bringing home the Cup title.

In the second frame Titans managed to get two players on base but again failed to score any runs.

At their turn at bat for the second innings, the Stars went three up and three down to also end with no runs.

At the start of the third frame and with the score still tied at zero, Titans knew it was time to show their rivals why they were crowned league winners.

The home side put their heads in the game and brought home a stellar nine runs to take the lead.

During their turn at bat, the Stars managed to bring home two runs.

In the fourth innings, Titans set out to extend their lead and brought home another five runs.

The determined Stars side went all out to try dethrone the Titans and also brought home five runs.Despite both teams best efforts in the fifth and sixth frames no other runs were scored.

The lack of additional runs scored meant that the Titans won the game 14 runs to seven to secure their spot in the cup semi-finals against Randburg’s Panthers.
