Edenvale karatekas bring home medals from championships

Shihan Michael Roetz attained his UFAK regional coaching qualification in kata and kumite.

Six karate students from the Michael Roetz Karate Institute were given their Protea colours after competing in the UFAK Region Five event.

Hosted in Namibia, the Edenvale students brought home 11 medals

Shihan Michael Roetz was the team head of delegation and director of Coaching Karate South Africa.

The results:

• Kelsy Stevenson won gold in junior unison kata, and bronze in individual junior kata and junior kumite.

• Jamie-Lee van den Heever won gold for senior team kumite and U21 kumite.

• Onkabetse Ramphekwa won bronze in junior kumite.

• Leonardo Hambardzumyan won bronze for senior team kumite and silver in U21 kumite.

• Michael Roetz won silver for junior kumite.

• Marinda Roetz won gold for senior kumite and team kumite seniors.

Shihan Michael Roetz also attained his UFAK regional coaching qualification in kata and kumite.
