‘Macca’ wins Gridpro African Long Drivers Championship title

MacMillan’s winning drive totaled 3.80.6m. His longest drive of the day was 412.7m.

The World Pro division-one champion, Campbell ‘Macca’ MacMillan won the men’s open final to walk away with the Gridpro African Long Drivers Championship title at Grasslands Driving Range on March 2.

MacMillan’s winning drive totalled 3.80.6m as he faced Jason Cook in the final. Cook shot 363m.

Chris Harmse rounded up the podium after driving 334.8m in the elimination match against MacMillan, which the Macca won with a drive of 392.2m.

Despite Cook’s impressive drives in the knock-outs, which ranged from 368 to 403.1m, MacMillan hit the longest ball of the day of 412.7m.

Winner of the amateurs’ title Wayde Dick.

The Zimbabwean’s dominance included a 400m drive in the top eight when he faced Andrew, who only managed to hit 370.3m.

Wayed Dick clinched the amateurs’ title after beating Christiaan Steyn in the final. He hit 359.3m in the top eight and registered 385.9m in the last four before hitting his winning drive of 369.8m for the win.

Steyn used all his energy in the earlier rounds after hitting 366.7m in the quarters and a mammoth 387.5m in the semis, only to manage 358.3m in the final, losing by 11.5m.

South African champion Thorne van Zyl teamed up with Marco das Neves to win the tag team titles after beating MacMillan and Mare in the final.
