Local runners take part in the annual Edenvale Marathon

“This event is held to benefit the community and we cannot host it without the support of the community.”

Edenvale’s official Comrades and Two Oceans Marathon qualifiers hit the streets when Rand Road Warriors (RRW) hosted the annual StaminoGro Edenvale Marathon.

Hosted on March 3, over 1 000 runners took to the streets. This year’s event, sponsored by StaminoGro and AECI, gave runners the opportunity to compete in the 42.2km race, 15km blitz or the 5km fun run or sprint.

Three charities were identified as the beneficiaries of the event. They were NPO Rainbow and Smiles, RySky Foundation (NPC) and Edenvale-based Tree of Hope.

Runners set off for the 42.2km and 15km distances on March 3 during the annual StaminoGro Edenvale Marathon.

All of the proceeds from the marathon will be donated to each organisation that assists the Edenvale community and surrounding areas.

RRW congratulated all of the runners who competed in their respective distances and for supporting the club
Treasurer of the club Sharon Holton specifically thanked the headline sponsor for the donation of countless litres of water.

She also thanked Johnson Workwear for the donation of reflective bands for marshals.

• The results for the men’s 42.2km were as follows:

Bongani Dlamini from Origins Running Club took first place in a time of 02:34:54. Second was Thabo Nkuna from Maxed Elite in a time of 02:43:31, followed by Karabo Gabriel Nkachela from 32GI with 02:46:19.

• The results for the women’s 42.2km were as follows:

Jessica Maitland-Stuart from Runzone won in a time of 03:08:09.

Second was Megan Dempster of Maverick Athletics Club in a time of 03:13:54 with Chrizell Roberts of Best Athletics coming third with 03:23:11

• Results for the men’s 15km blitz were:

Kenyan Albert Kangor won in a time of 0:48:04

UJ’s Letsepa Madume claimed second place with 0:48:42 while Amos Kemboi took third in a time of 0:49:42.

• Results for the women’s 15km blitz were:

Dikeledi Majara claimed first place in a time of 0:58:05. She was followed by Cornelia Joubert of Boxer Athletics Club in a time of 0:59:29 and Simonay Weitsz in third who finished in a time of 0:59:56

• Results for the men’s 5km sprint were:

Keagan Botha of Nedbank Road Running Club was placed first in a time of 0:16:57.

Ivory Park Athletic Club’s Siyavuya Thomas came second in 0:17:28 while Zimasa Ngubane of Orlando Athletics Club finished third in 0:17:50.

• Results for the women’s 5km sprint were:

Spring’s Strider’s Kara Beytell won in a time of 0:22:15.

She was followed by Kai Hattingh in a time of 0:22:19 and Tessa Abrahamson of Multichoice Athletics Club in third with 0:25:30.
