Jules High claims victory at community cup

The idea behind the tournament is to create an opportunity for the football teams from the schools in the immediate vicinity to visit Jeppe to play in an organised competition.

Jules High School are the first winner of the Kensington Community Cup Football Tournament.

Hosted by Jeppe High School for Boys, the tournament was supported by Teljoy.

Jules High beat Kensington Secondary 1-0 in the final on September 27.

In previous years it was played as a festival, with no overall winner.

The idea behind the tournament is to create an opportunity for the football teams from the schools in the immediate vicinity to visit Jeppe to play in an organised competition.

Obinna Onovo (centre) from Jules High School was awarded the most valuable player after competing in the Kensington Community Cup Football Tournament hosted by Jeppe High School for Boys on September 27.

In the process, Jeppe Boys got a chance to meet boys from the neighbouring schools that they would not normally interact with.

Along with Jeppe, five schools from Kensington and the suburbs around it were involved: Jules High, Queens High, Denver High, Malvern High and Kensington Secondary School.

This year, St John’s College Academy was also invited. It is made up of boys who attend the afternoon and weekend classes that St John’s arranges for academically gifted boys who attend their neighbouring schools.

The visiting schools were given a bag of balls.

The teams were divided into two pools, with preliminary games completed despite adverse weather conditions. This included a lengthy break for a lightning threat.

The award for the most spirited school went to Malvern High School.

Jules High’s Obinna Onovo was named the most valuable player on the day.
