Edenvale Panthers Junior host Valke season

Youth rugby fun was the order of the day when Edenvale Panthers Junior Rugby Club hosted the second leg of the Valke Season.

Played at Edenvale Sports Grounds on July 29, four clubs, including the Panthers, went head-to-head.

The other clubs were Springs, NWU and Suikerbos.

The chairperson of the Junior Panthers, Andrew Walker, said the club was grateful for everyone’s support and to have clubs visit the Vale.

“What made it even more special and a tear-jerker was watching our boys on home ground in their brand spanking new kit.”

The club’s first game, the U7s, saw the little ones open the day with tag rugby.

“It was the first game of the season, and we had girl power on the team and scored two tries,” said Walker.

“These players represent our youngest age group, but don’t underestimate them because they are some of the most exciting and passionate players to watch.”

Next up were the U9s. Walker said the team was unlucky not to win.

“They are up against teams who trained and played school and club together for some time now. We know this is a fierce little team in the making. We see their characters at every practice, and they have much potential,” said Walker.

He said this was a team to look out for.

According to Walker, the U11s had club members on the edge of their seats.

“It was a tough one, and the boys had some massive tackles. They gave it their all, and drew with Springs,” said Walker.

Despite having two of its team members injured recently, Walker said the boys had not played to their full potential.

“The players and the coaches learnt a lot from the game.

“We want to instil greater confidence in the players while improving their skills to produce even better results,” said Walker.

He urged parents to encourage the players so they could produce their best.

Walker thanked the coaches, volunteers, management, parents and supporters for contributing to the day.
