Junior Panthers set to meet the community

“We want to invite the community and show them what we have on offer, we want to show them why Panthers.”

Edenvale’s Junior Panther Rugby Club invites the community to meet the club during a registration day.

Set to be held on May 6 between 10:00 and 12:00 it will be an event for schools and parents to meet the committee and coaches.

It will be held at the Edenvale Sports Grounds at the rugby field.

Andrew Walker, chairperson of the junior club, said the day will be for players between the groups U6 to U18, boys and girls.

He said during the day there will be different training stations on the field to allow potential club members to get a test of what is on offer.

The Edenvale Panthers, which is part of the Valke league, have coaches who are all Boksmart certified.

Walker said the registration day is being held in preparation for the upcoming season which starts in July.

“We want to invite the community and show them what we have on offer. We want to show them why Panthers.”

Andrew explained that one aspect the club feels strongly about is the idea of clan culture.

“We are a family and a brotherhood. We believe rugby is about discipline and respect and forms part of the clan culture.”

He said as a club the Panthers take the sport seriously.

Another aspect the club and its parents feel strongly about is anti-bullying

“Playing rugby helps build confidence which some children might need.”

Walker said on the day parents and school coaches will be asked committee members and coaches questions, meet all the necessary stakeholders and go through all relevant details relating to the club.

He said those who attend will also learn about the club’s upcoming tour to the UK and its fundraising drive.

Later this year the u13s will visit Grimsby Rugby Club which will arrange a tournament for the young Panthers.
