Letter: reader questions CoE spent on Bedfordview

“It is painfully obvious that very little of the funds collected from rates etc are used for Bedfordview.”

Editor – There was a time when Bedfordview was the showpiece of the East Rand.

Today it is just Bedfordview. The pride and prestige are gone.

There is a massive pothole on Van Buuren Road before the N3 underpass.

This is and always has been the main road through Bedfordview.

The potholes on Boeing Road East at the N3 underpass are shocking and have been around “forever” without any proper attention that could result in a permanent solution.

In Kirkby Road you can only use one lane due to the road breaking up.

Not to mention all of the other potholes that get “fixed” by unqualified “contractors’ but then wash out after a rain shower.

I will not even discuss the condition of the pavements.

Jill Humphries has explained to me that Bedfordview does not rate as a priority in the eyes of Ekurhuleni local government and so receives very little consideration.

We now have the private initiative of Maria Costas and others doing excellent work cleaning pavements for which we are all very grateful.

But where does all of the money collected from Bedfordview go?

It is painfully obvious that very little of the funds collected from rates are used for Bedfordview.

CoE must publish the rand amount collected in rates from Bedfordview and what is spent monthly on Bedfordiew and they must advise where the balance is spent.

Bedfordview would be far better off running its own municipality as in the past.
