‘Don’t blame elderly for IEC’s inadequacies’ – reader

"Did you approach the IEC officials on duty with your concerns?"

EDITOR – In reply to May 22 edition’s letter to the Editor, on Speakers Forum concerning queue jumping – I do not know what gender or age the writer is.

Also read: Queue jumpers cost parties’ votes

But I do know that blaming us, the elderly, for the inadequacies of the IEC and government and the alleged loss of votes from those voters leaving the queue is presumptuous, demeaning and downright insulting.

Did you approach the IEC officials on duty with your concerns?

Did you approach any of said queue leavers to establish whether they were in fact leaving because of the “capable greys”?

Of course, there will always be an individual who will take advantage of any situation such as the one you describe.

But to blame the problem on the majority rather than the few is disrespectful and contemptuous, to say the least.

There will come a time when you will also be old, perhaps ill or handicapped.
