Resident complains about EMM call centre

EMM call centre can be contacted via email.

EDITOR – I would like to express my dissatisfaction with regards to the lack of services rendered upon contacting the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) call centre number (011 999 0001).

Once a month I need to contact Ekurhuleni and provide them with my electricity reading as my electricity meter is situated on my private property and there is not always someone available at my home to provide access for contracted readers.

As a result, I have to contact the call centre number which is an absolute waste of time.

Although their service hours commence at 8am, I am informed by an electronic voice about their office hours and the call is then ended, regardless of it being shortly after 8am.

If I call towards the middle of the day, my average waiting time to speak to an operator is about 40 to 50 minutes.

Today I attempted to phoned again and was informed after 55 minutes that the call centre is experiencing high call volumes and cannot attend to my phone call and should retry later.

I would like to know whether I am the only person experiencing this problem or are there other readers with the same experiences?

Is there perhaps an easier way to submit electricity readings for the Germiston Ekurhuleni offices?

This happens on a monthly basis and is not an exception to my experience.

ANITA,

HIGHWAY GARDENS,

ÉDENVALE.

EDITOR’S COMMENT – Mr Themba Gadebe spokesperson for EMM commented as follows:

Residents should ensure that all enquiries are done through the call centre on 086 054 3000. To ensure that inquiries are answered, residents can also contact the call centre or send an email to call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za
