Pensioner frustrated by post office

I was informed that because I did not pay, I will be penalised.

EDITOR – I received a renewal notice for my Post Box on February 5.

The form said that it should be paid by January 31.

I went to pay (as a pensioner) on the sixth, ninth and thirteenth of February.

Each time they were off-line, so I could not pay with my debit card.

I do not carry cash with me when I am alone.

I was informed that because I did not pay, I will be penalised.

I asked about a credit for the four months without the box service.

The answer from the main Post Office in Edenvale was that I will not be given a credit.

The lady behind the counter was unsympathetic and unfriendly.

I have had two heart operations and struggle with my health, so I cannot keep running to the Post Office and stand in a queue each time to pay.

They have chairs, but the youngsters sit on it and will not budge. When I asked the floor manager if he could give me his chair, he ignored me and when pressed, he became abusive.

What is this world coming to if people cannot show common courtesy and consideration?

I think it is shocking that the public is being asked to pay for a service they did not have and secondly to penalise us when we receive the notices late.

But heck, does anything in this country make sense anymore?

M JARRETT,

EDENVALE.
