EDITOR – Well done for publishing the photo of the dog impaled on the gate in Edenvale.

I fully understand why Rory Wilson felt it was insensitive to publish this photo, because I too am an animal lover, but, there is a positive side to the decision the Editor made.

I came home in the early hours of 2002 to a similar scene – my German Shepherd hanging by an impaled leg on our security gate.

I will never forget his open, but dead eyes.

He had suffered a heart attack because of fireworks and for that reason we have never again left our animals alone during times of celebration.

Too many people don’t care about how fireworks affect animals, the elderly, the sick and babies and of course there are those inconsiderate, selfish individuals who will carry on using fireworks for days after the celebrations are over.

Perhaps the reality of the consequences of their loud bangs will make them think twice about buying fireworks in future?

Let’s see more pictures of the ripped-up legs, faces and bodies, the broken teeth and the road kills.

Maybe the sight of the blood and guts will encourage people to celebrate peacefully instead of using fireworks?
