Reader throws down the gauntlet

I would like to challenge the new councillor for Ward 118 Neuren Pietersen.

Pietersen is all talk and little action. He said he cares for Malvern, but I have only seen him once with the previous councillor, Mike Spadino. They spoke to residents and noted the issues about service delivery, and that was in November last year. Some of the service delivery issues were attended to, but there is no improvement. Pavements that were dug up by contractors to lay cables last year in October are still not fixed. You can visit Malvern for a tour and look at the pavements and streets – nothing has been done.

Also, it seems that Pietersen has some sort of financial interest in the illegal hawkers who spring up on pavements everywhere. You cannot walk because they block pathways. Why has he not called Metro police to enforce bylaws?

I recently drove through Bruma from work and I saw potholes in Ernest Oppenheimer Road opposite the new China Mall and on Allum Road. Also, in Queens and Fredrick avenues there are more potholes. He has made promises to the people that he would be a good councillor. Why are the potholes not fixed? Furthermore, the grass on the pavements in Marcia Street has not been cut in months.

We are still waiting for answers from him regarding the concrete balls by the park in King Street in Malvern. We are still waiting for a public meeting with the whole community and not a select few like he is currently doing. I regret voting for the current councillor because he seems not to be in touch with the community.
