Real talk with Duenna

I am relieved that the 11 remaining bodies of the South African victims of the building collapse in Nigeria have returned home.

I am happy that they, like the 74 that have already returned home, will receive a decent burial after five months since the collapse of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan) guest house in Lagos.

May their souls rest in eternal peace and I hope their families will find closure and comfort.

As a people, may we not forget the tragedy and may their death be not in vain.

It still haunts me when I imagine why my fellow South Africans visited Scoan. Some may have gone there for divine healing, some for prophecies and for others, it could have been just to see miracles for themselves.

I am saddened by how Christians seem to believe more in tangible miracles than seeking God and His salvation.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying people should not spend their money to fly to Lagos, but I have a problem with Christians who worship the so-called men of God, more than they fear God Himself.

So this week Facebook went abuzz with users warning one another about a certain phone number which they believe belongs to either Satan or his demons.

What upset me was seeing people going out of their way to accommodate these ‘warnings’.

None of the people I asked seemed to know where the message originated. None of them had either received a call or message from the said demons, but everyone of them was spreading the word.

I was shocked at how gullible people are.

I know people seldom make wishes for Valentine’s Day, but can I just make one, just for this year?

I wish for a day when men and women [pastors] will stop using the gospel as a meal ticket. I pray for the day where Christians will start taking the gospel of the cross seriously. I wish that one day, all the ignorance would stop and that people will go back to the basics of the gospel and maybe start to understand that miracles are only a part of the gospel, after salvation.
