Residents share their thoughts on clean-up activities at Bez Valley World War I Memorial

Bez Valley residents, together with Ward 66 Clr Carlos Da Rocha, cleaned up the Bez Valley World War I Memorial as part of the A Re Sebetseng campaign on February 17.

We asked the residents how they feel about the condition of the memorial and the clean-up campaign.

Petros Mutswalahosi: “I’m happy to see this park being cleaned. Social ills have deteriorated the park. It’s wonderful to see the community cleaning up. I hope we all come together in keeping our area clean and respect parks and open spaces.”
Lungile Mthwana: “As residents, we need to clean after ourselves and also respect the environment. We need to support the clean-up campaign and make sure we educate people we see litter on the importance of a clean environment.”
Gift Dube: “I’m happy to see the community coming together and cleaning the memorial park. This park was beautiful and respected but now it’s filthy. As a resident, I also want to get involved in the clean-up and make our area beautiful.”
Laura Da Sousa: “I’m happy to clean up the memorial park because it’s in such a state. We want our area to be clean. As the community, we need to support the clean-up campaign because it’s for the benefits of our area.”
Sihle Mbatha: “We need to be proud of our area and that can be shown by having a clean community. The park is part of our heritage in the Bez Valley area and as residents, we need to be responsible for keeping it clean. I’m happy to participate in the clean-up campaign because it will allow me to educate others about respecting the environment.”
