Two words which send shivers down most parents’ spines.
Let’s take a look at exactly how easy is it for someone to abduct your child.
A group of friends, myself included, recently gathered at a sports club in Bedfordview to watch a game of local cricket.
On that evening, among the group were two young girls who we watched closely while they played on the open grass in front of us.
In a moment, the two girls were distracted when a woman walking her dogs strolled past.
We all stood up as the girls ran over to greet the two fluffy pets.
While we waited for the game to start, we watched as over a hundred little ones practised soccer while their parents cheered them on.
Then it happened, one of the girls returned to our table but where was the youngest?
We had looked away for a second!
In the distance we saw her, walking hand-in-hand with another woman, on the other side of the field.
The young girl’s mother immediately jumped up and ran to her.
By the time she reached her daughter, the woman holding the little girl’s hand was less than 10 metres from her car.
She let go of the little girl’s hand and continued to walk towards her car, without even turning around.
The little one was terrified and crying.
When we asked her what the women had said to her, she replied that the woman said she would take her.
She would take her, and she walked off, just like that.
It took less than three minutes for someone to grab the hand of one of over 100 children at the venue on that night and walk with her to her car.
It was that easy for a woman walking around the field where so many children were playing to take the hand of a little girl and walk off with her.
Parents, please watch your children at all times.
By the time we had local SAPS on the phone, the woman had driven away, luckily not with a young girl.
