I am the mother of a six-year-old boy looking forward to "big" school next year, hopefully at the primary school of my choice in Edenvale.

My experience on April 21, when most 2016 school admission forms were returned, highlighted to me the increasing and desperate need for more schools in Edenvale. To be more accurate, the need for the construction of new schools in developing areas such as Greenstone and Modderfontein.

Parents will know that school admissions are based on each school’s feeder area. If you reside outside of a specific school’s feeder area, your admission is automatically moved to waiting list B.

Added to this, parents of school pupils in Edenvale are by now also familiar with the demand on our schools to take in more pupils, compared to previous years due to the rapid development of the areas already mentioned.

The residential developments in these areas are fast outgrowing the plans, never mind the construction, of new schools.

Edenvale schools are “forced” to accommodate children residing in these areas.

Usually such a demand, let’s say on a service provider, will automatically result in a drop in service delivery and quality.

However this is not applicable to our schools.

Despite this added pressure to accommodate more pupils, the historical demand from those residing in areas such as Germiston, also remains.

I realise the above outlines a concern which many of us share, however I believe in Edenvale schools to continue providing quality education no matter the increasing demand.
