St Andrew’s to host a community event

The public is urged to support the event because proceeds will go towards the school’s rowing club.

St Andrew’s School for Girls will host a food and wine festival to raise funds for their rowing club on March 31.

Various wine stalls will be to hand, along with a gin bar, food stalls, raffles, craft beer and champagne tasting.

There will also be live music.

The head of sports, Tara Nooy, said they have many girls who are into rowing and are one of the top-performing schools for the sport.

“The equipment is quite expensive and we try to make it as affordable as possible.

“This fundraiser is to raise money for the club so we can get equipment for our girls.

“The better equipment you have, the better the chance you have of learning and achieving your full potential sooner,” said Nooy.

She said the event was a success last year.

“We had parents from our neighbouring schools, parents from other sporting codes in our school, and it was a wonderful time for everyone to get together, to be able to be in a relaxed environment, socialise and network a little bit,” she added.

The step-up will be outdoors with tables and chairs.

The head of marketing, Caterina Cannone, said, “It’s a lovely festival that is community building, and it’s nice for parents as well.

“Being a parent myself, it is difficult sometimes to find a place to go to and be entertained.”

Wrapping up the first season of the league, Nooy said they had received more medals than the other schools.

The players, coaches and parents were thanked for their support and dedication.
