Dickie Fritz to host fete and parade on November 2

This year community members can expect a variety of stalls, a parade and live entertainment.

Dickie Fritz Moth Ex-servicemen’s Cottage Association will again host its annual fete, fun day and a parade to honour those who paid the supreme sacrifice during WW II.

The event will be on November 2 at the Dickie Fritz Shellhole, 115 Dickie Fritz Avenue, to raise funds to run and maintain the cottages and to support cottage residents.

This year attendees can expect food stalls, the ever-popular white-elephant stall, a flea market, a craft stall, a cake and produce stall, a plant stall, raffles, a parade and live entertainment. A coffee shop and a refreshment area will be available.

The day will also include a parade honouring the lives of past and current service members.

The Sidi Rezegh Parade honours the sacrifice of South African soldiers who joined the Allies in World War II at the Battle of Sidi Rezegh in Northern Africa against the German Army.

The Germans defeated the Allies, killing and wounding many fighting men. Some were taken as prisoners of war.

To assist in the success of the day, businesses and community members are encouraged to get involved by donating items to the raffle draw or the stalls.

Alternatively, rent a stall for R250.
