Edenvale company adopts an island on Hendrick Potgieter

The company has also committed to look after the island for a year.

Edenvale-based company CFD Construction led a clean-up initiative supported by community members on October 5.

They have adopted an island on Hendrick Potgieter between the 6th and 7th avenues through the Essentially Edenvale community initiative spearheaded by community activist Lisa Atkins.

They planted plants, repaired the curbs which will be painted.

The company has also committed to looking after the island for a year.

Kerry Hannah, who was part of the campaign, said: “We would like to thank Lisa from Essentially Edenvale for arranging everything for us and for the big donation of plants. Infinity H20 for all the water for the plants and more to come in future, Derrick for the donation and volunteering of his time, the staff (Doctor, Godfrey and Diego) for working so hard.

“Vie for the huge strelitzia, Margaret for all the rock roses and other plants and everyone else that took the time, effort and cared enough to drop off plants to help our town look beautiful again.”

She has urged the entire Edenvale community to play their part in persevering the area by either supporting local initiatives or adopting an island.

“To our ward councillors Bill Rundle and Heather Hart who said they would attend but did not, I guess their hands were tied again or there was no budget, typical politicians full of promises and no delivery.

“Thanks to Sharon from the Bedfordview and Edenvale News for coming out on a Saturday to document the event and create awareness.

“We as CFD Construction hope that others in our community will be encouraged to adopt more islands and help turn Edenvale into the beautiful Town it once was,” added Hannah.

Founder Charl Allen said having grown up in the area he has seen how the place has deteriorated over the years.

“It’s disheartening to see other towns taking action while we sit back.

“We wanted to be part of the solution, and joining forces with Lisa and her initiative seemed like the perfect way to do that,” explained Allen.

He thanked those who supported them and echoed Hannah’s words urging the community to work together to keep Edenvale clean.

“Those who want change, make a change. Get your hands dirty, get in there and let’s get it done. I mean, there’s nothing more to it. It doesn’t help me complain. Nothing’s going to change. Let’s just get together and do it.”
