SAPS units bust 55 suspects for various offenses

Rapid Response Services arrested 55 suspects across Gauteng for various crimes.

Units comprising flying squads, K9 and Highway Patrol members made the arrests between October 4 and 10 and also seized 41 motor vehicles and recovered two firearms during this period.

The media liaison officer of the Rapid Response Services, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, said officers arrested 30 suspects for common assault, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, robbery, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, domestic violence, contravening a protection order, reckless and negligent driving, malicious damage to property, fraud, murder, rape and immigration contraventions.

Gauteng’s Rapid Response Services confiscated various tools when 55 suspects were arrested.

“Officers recovered 41 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles and arrested eight suspects for the possession of these vehicles. They also recovered two unlicensed firearms,” said Giblin.

He said further policing saw 17 arrests for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

“Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax, and crystal meth were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.”

Giblin said investigations into all cases are ongoing.The suspects will face charges in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
