Locals enjoy fun-filled spring expo at St Andrew’s

“The little ones couldn’t seem to get enough of the haunted house.”

Community members had a spring in their step when they attended the St Andrew’s Spring Expo.

Held on September 14 at the school, the event was described as a great success.

Offering a variety of stalls, food trucks, beer tents, champagne gardens, a haunted house and foam pools, the expo had something for all.

St Andrew’s staff members Anne Albonese, Abby van Niekerk and Tamlyn Harker enjoyed themselves at the expo.

According to Caterina Cannone, Andrean advancement manager, attendees had a great time with the beautiful spring weather.

“The atmosphere was lively and jovial, with a great turnout from the whole community.”

Started in 2009, the St Andrew’s Spring Expo was the brainchild of St Andrew’s former events and function manager, Chris Boshoff.

In 2019, shortly before Covid-19, the expo celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Following Covid-19 the expo returned in 2022.

Maphalima Moloi and Mafusi Molise enjoyed the warm weather.

“We were conservative with the number of stalls and activities on offer, to test the market’s appetite for an event of its nature after the pandemic lockdown.

“We have increased the size each year going forward, due to the overwhelming response from our community,” said Caterina.

Caterina said its objective was always about building community engagement, giving students the opportunity to raise funds for their various causes and providing a safe and secure environment for the community to enjoy quality family time together.

Some of the day’s highlights included the indoor rowing regatta which was a big success.

“The provincial indoor rowing regatta was a huge draw card, with 550 athletes from 15 schools from around Gauteng, competing on ergo machines as individuals and as relay teams,” said Caterina.

St Andrew’s staff members Anne Albonese, Abby van Niekerk and Tamlyn Harker enjoyed themselves at the expo.

“The little ones couldn’t seem to get enough of the haunted house.”

Caterina thanked everyone involved in making the event a great success once again this year, especially the St Andrew’s Spring Expo Committee, chaired by the head of junior school, Bev van Niekerk.

“An event of this nature takes immense teamwork, and St Andrew’s School for Girls is very blessed with efficient and tireless teams who are involved in the many aspects required.

“We also extend sincere appreciation to all the external vendors, parents and staff who volunteered, and the in-house stalls manned by staff, parents, and students, for providing such a wide array of quality goods and delicious eats,” said Caterina.

Gita and Rajesh Rattan enjoyed the day’s festivities.
