The City of Ekurhuleni has suspended Chief of Police Isaac Mapiyeye following allegations of misconduct, including harassment of two female officers from the EMPD.
Mapiyeye was served with a suspension letter on September 26 after the council authorised the city manager to launch an investigation and report findings within 30 days.

“This follows a special council meeting held earlier this month, where the council empowered the city manager to initiate disciplinary procedures by the local government disciplinary regulations for senior managers and other relevant policies,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
An independent investigator has been appointed to probe the allegations.
“The accounting officer will submit the findings to the council within 30 days of the investigator’s appointment, as resolved by the council,” Dlamini added.
ActionSA caucus leader Siyanda Makhubo welcomed the suspension, stating, “From the beginning, ActionSA recommended the immediate suspension of Mapiyeye pending investigation. We must ensure that those in authority are held to the highest standards of conduct.”
Zanele Mpofu, a representative of the Germiston GBV Brigade, also supported the move, saying: “We remain hopeful that justice will be served, and the truth will prevail, whatever the outcome may be.”
