Operation Shanela yields positive results

Four people were arrested for driving under the influence, one for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and one for attempted murder.

In a joint effort to crack down on crime, the Bedfordview SAPS conducted Operation Shanela on September 13 and 14.

Operation Shanela is a targeted initiative to maintain law and order.

Two fines to the value of R2 500 were issued for the Liquor Act Non-Compliance and 16 traffic fines were issued to the value of R8 000 for non-compliance with traffic fines.

Through the operation, seven premises were inspected with 644 persons checked, 171 vehicles inspected, one roadblock and two vehicle checkpoints conducted.

Four people were arrested for drunk driving, one for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and one for attempted murder.

Another person was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon, two for theft and one for shoplifting.

Twenty-four undocumented persons were taken into custody.

“Operation Shanela demonstrates Bedfordview SAPS’s commitment to public safety and law enforcement.

“By tackling a wide range of crime challenges from traffic violations to serious criminal activities, the Bedfordview SAPS is sending a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated,” said the station’s communications officer, Lillian Modiga.

The operation was supported by local security companies and the Bedfordview CPF.
