Titans take top honours

Giants teams competed in various leagues throughout the senior season, culminating in the league cup and plate finals.

The premier side won with 12 runs to one.

In the ladies’ final, the Giants Ladies finished in second place against Valhalla, losing three runs to 15.

In the reserve league, the Bantams faced Dani’s Boys for the Plate.

Despite being ready for action, Dani’s Boys failed to arrive for their final match, handing Bantams a 9-0 win to claim the Plate title.

The fellow Giants Senior Reserve League the Titans went head-to-head against the Raiders for the Cup title.

Before the final game, the Titans had only suffered one defeat in their quest for cup glory.

That defeat was at the hands of the Raiders.

After beating the Randburg Panthers in Edenvale 21 runs to zero a week earlier, the Titans were ready for vindication and the league final set the perfect stage.

The Titans won the toss and fielded first.

In the first innings, the Raiders took full advantage of several fielding errors by a visibly nervous Titans team to bring home four runs.

Playing catch-up would be no easy feat and at their turn at bat, the Titans brought home three runs.

At the start of the second innings, the Titans knew they had to switch to a new game plan if they had any chance of securing the win.

With a newfound confidence, the Edenvale favourites quickly silenced the Raiders bench when they sent their rivals back to the dugout without scoring runs.

The Titans team set out to take the lead in their second batting and brought home five runs, including a massive in-field home run.

In the third inning, neither side was able to score any runs.

At the start of the fourth innings, a frustrated Raiders team gave it their all but only brought home one run.

The Titans matched this and also brought home one run.

This pattern repeated in the fifth frame and each side brought home one run.

With time running out in the final and the score at 10-6 runs in favour of the Titans, the Raiders were given a last chance at bat.

Despite the best effort from the Titans, the Raiders brought home two runs in the nail-biting final before they were struck out and time was called on the game.

Titans celebrated their 10-8 win field-side with champagne and later collected the League and Cup trophies at the prize-giving ceremony.
