New trees planted for Thornhill Manor
When the leaves are crushed, they produce a strong lavender scent.
Two lavender trees were planted by Thornhill Manor in celebration of Arbor Month.
The trees were planted on September 2.
It is hoped that the trees, which were planted in the retirement village’s park area, will create more shade for the stalls at the annual family fun day and fête.

This year’s fete is on October 5, from 09:00 to 13:00.
“What a great turnout of residents we had for the tree planting,” said Jackie Scott, the village’s deputy manager.
“The trees and fertiliser were generously donated by Servest Garden Services.”
The company’s Londrick Mathebula and Sibongayena Dlamini dug the holes.
According to Sanbi, lavender trees are deciduous and average between five and 10m in height.

Their relatively small size and non-invasive root system make them ideal for smaller spaces.

“Wendy Hunt, a Thornhill Manor resident, is always willing to organise our Arbor Day event and said a few words and a prayer. As is tradition, this year’s tree planting was followed by tea and cake in our community centre,” said Jackie.
