Jeppe High for Girls spreads the warmth

The blanket drives had a profound impact on the communities we have served.

Jeppe High School for Girls’ crochet enthusiasts recently spread warmth when they donated blankets, beanies and socks to various organisations.

The donation drive saw the Jeppe learners visit Gerald Fitzpatrick House and Nursing Home, East Rand Children’s Haven, Child Welfare SA – Edenvale and Bedfordview and Woodside Sanctuary.

At Gerald Fitzpatrick Home, the learners donated 80 blankets and showered the residents with love, care, and warmth.

Marketing administrator of the school, Rebecca Malumba, said: “This special visit was a heartwarming experience, especially when we met Rosemary Berry, a Jeppe Old Girl.”

Rosemary shared captivating stories of her time at the school.

“We were also honoured to meet the home’s oldest resident, a remarkable 102-year-old woman Violet, and Rosy, a vibrant 99-year-old who embodied the beauty of age.”

Rebecca said the learners also shared their time, love and attention.

“We thank the caretakers and social workers for their dedication and kindness. This visit reminded us of the importance of cherishing our elderly and recognising their value in our society they hold a special place in our hearts.”

Next on the school’s list of donors was East Rand Children’s Haven where joy and warmth were brought to the children of the home.

“Our latest contribution of 25 blankets means that even more little ones will be snug and cosy, surrounded by the love and care of our generous community,” said Rebecca.

Child Welfare SA – Edenvale and Bedfordview also received beautiful handmade blankets.

“We were touched by the work being done by the social workers, managers, and caregivers with these young children,” said Rebecca.

She said some of the children at ECW will be starting Grade R next year.

Jeppe Girls pledged to supply start-up stationery packs for those children.

A further 60 blankets were donated to Woodside Sanctuary, a home for the intellectually disabled.

Rebecca said it was heartwarming to see the thoughtful creations made by the learners bring comfort and joy to those in need.

The school extended its thanks to all of the teachers, learners, families and Jeppe community for their kindness and generosity
