Another incredible woman praised for Women’s Month

"There isn’t a day that goes by when I do not think about cancer and how fortunate I am to be alive."

Agnes Munien is an incredible woman of strength as we continue to showcase our sheroes this Women’s Month.

She has been volunteering with Cansa since 2019, assisting with sponsorship, and is now part of the Cansa Relay for Life committee, East Rand.

She continues to assist with fundraising, sponsorship, and catering for survivors and caregivers.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer on February 11, 2016.

“This changed my life. There isn’t a day that goes by when I do not think about cancer and how fortunate I am to be alive.

“I am thankful to my wonderful children, family and awesome, amazing, friends who stood by me and gave me all the love and support inspired from my own journey and other cancer warriors,” she shared.

At the time of her diagnosis, she was 53 years old.

The cancer survivor and Cansa volunteer discovered the lump through self-examination.

She said sharing her journey with others has been an empowering process for her.

“I thought if this could happen to me, it can happen to anyone – women my age, younger, older.

“The first thing that I want you to know is that everyone has their journey with cancer, and no one is better or worse or has it easier or harder. We are all unique individuals bringing our own life experiences to the table during this time.”

Her journey through chemotherapy was never easy.

She was always sick and, at times, even contemplated giving up.

“Cansa Relay for Life is a unique event that offers everyone in our community, and country, the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. It’s an inspiring experience that gives everyone a chance to celebrate cancer survivors,” said Munien.
