Edenvale’s women in blue hit the streets

During Women’s Month the role of women is celebrated, this includes the role women play in law enforcement.

Edenvale’s women in blue took charge when a crime prevention operation was conducted in Hurlyvale.
Operation Shanela took place on August 14.

It was conducted under the command of Edenvale station commander Colonel Ntombomzi Basholo.

The police were joined by stakeholders, EMPD, private security companies and non profit organisation You Are Not Alone (Yana).

Pamphlets were distributed at one of the vehicle checkpoints set up on August 14.

Edenvale SAPS communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said each year, during Women’s Month, the role of women is celebrated.

“This includes the role women play in law enforcement,” said Mashile.

The operation’s key focus was on compliance, creating awareness and inspecting liquor and second-hand goods stores.

Edenvale SAPS, EMPD and other stakeholders on parade before Operation Shanela commenced.

Mashile said after being addressed by Basholo the members were divided and dispersed accordingly to target specific duties during the operation.

The station commander welcomed the partnerships displayed by the different stakeholders.
