Essentially Edenvale director Michelle dos Santos said the crèche will receive burglar bars, a new kitchen countertop, have its ceilings repaired and its electrical infrastructure improved where necessary.

Dos Santos, a Ward 18 committee member for the women and children’s portfolio, said the decision to improve the crèche was close to her heart.

“The crèche is trying to become compliant with the government, by lending a hand and assisting it will benefit them and the community at large,” she said.

Dos Santos said there are 11 crèches on her radar which are non-compliant. Some of them have been reported while others are working with her to become compliant with government rules.

Williams explained that every year she helps an organisation in need throughout the whole year. This year she decided to do one of the projects with the help of Lifta SA.

Passionate about helping others, Williams said the crèche project was one of two initiatives she is working on.

“Helping others is just part of my nature and something I’ve always done,” said Williams.
