Charity begins at home for St Andrew’s
Kicking off the programme were the Grade 10 learners who put together care packages for the Saturday school programme called Bambiswano.
Georgia Carrington of St Andrew’s School for Girls told Bedfordview Edenvale News that this year they wanted to give back to their community for the international 67 minutes for Mandela Day.
They hosted a series of activities throughout the day in celebration of International Mandela Day.
Kicking off the programme were the Grade 10 learners who put together care packages for the Saturday school programme called Bambiswano.

The initiative provides learners from different schools to use St Andrew’s facilities and learn new skills.
The care packages included sweet treats, stationery and toiletry items.
“Our Grade 11s did a pamper session for our support staff. All of the support staff that don’t necessarily get recognition all the time got hand massages and their nails done,” shared Carrington.
The Grade Eight learners decorated cupcakes while the Grade Nines planted seedlings which are to be donated to a park.
“St Andrews represents everything that South Africa is and we love giving back.

“So it’s the perfect opportunity to get the whole school to come together and work together to give back to our community,” she added.
Gabriella O’Shea (14) expressed gratitude to all her teachers and the support staff.
Grade learner Jena Brown said giving back teaches people to be grateful for what they have.
