Reddam House learners tell why celebrating Mandela Day means

Young people speak out about why they are doing their part for Mandela Day.

Reddam House Bedfordview learners share with the Bedfordview Edenvale News what Mandela Day means to them and why they needed to participate in honouring their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

Syon Niadoo (12): We need to celebrate and never forget what Nelson Mandela has done for all of us as a nation.

Raquel Peixoto (10): This day makes it possible for us to help those who are in need like giving people food so that they don’t have to starve.

Hayden Blignaut (11): Mandela Day is a celebration of giving back not because we are forced to but because we chose to give back, especially to those who are in need.
Mosa Sedibe (13): I want to be like he was. Not just making sandwiches but making a difference and making people feel loved and cared for.

 

Shalom Zulu (13): We celebrate Mandela Day as a remembrance and to give back to our communities and those who are less fortunate.

 

Eliana Birru (13): For me, it is about knowing that one more person gets to receive a meal today.

 

Nomcebo Hlatshwayo (13): Our class made about 250 sandwiches and it felt good to be a part of something that aims to make a difference. We Had fun and enjoyed that this will help a lot of people.
