Edenvale SAPS embarks on drug prevention campaign

“They were sensitised about the toxicity of drugs such as cat, Mandrax, dagga, heroin, crystal meth and nyaope.”

Edenvale officers took to the streets while conducting a Jinda drug abuse awareness campaign.

Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said campaigns like this assist youth in developing knowledge and skills to engage in healthy behaviour.

“It is against this background that Edenvale SAPS sector managers embarked on an awareness campaign to address drug abuse,” said Mashile.

He explained drug abuse in the community is becoming common among young people.

Officers engaged with community members and youth on July 13.

“They were sensitised about the toxicity of drugs such as Cat, Mandrax, dagga, heroin, crystal meth and nyaope. Young people in the community are using these drugs,” said Mashile.

On behalf of Edenvale’s station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Chetty, Mashile emphasised the South African constitution mandated the police to apprehend drug dealers. He highlighted that drug dealers should be exposed and reported to the police.
