No more repairs needed at Avondgloed Road trench – CoE

Before the road surface is re-tared, road safety and warning signs will be erected at the site.

The CoE said the additional repair work needed at what was formerly the Avondgloed Road trench is complete.

Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro recently highlighted the need for additional repair work at the site.

According to Guerreiro, the temporary repair work at the trench spanning Avondgloed Road had begun deteriorating, putting the community members at risk.

It forced motorists, not wanting to potentially damage their vehicles, to slow to a crawl for them to cross it.

According to the city’s previous responses, they dug the trench to repair a collapsed sewer pipe that ran under Avondgloed Road.

When the Bedfordview and Edenvale News met with Guerreiro, the trench was filled with soil. However, some of it was eroded after a water leak started on Fleur Street.

Since then, the road’s surface has sagged where the soil eroded.

Pipes were reportedly still needed to be installed.

When at the site on June 26, he informed Bedfordview and Edenvale News that the additional piping infrastructure still had to be installed.

However, according to the city, no further repairs are necessary, and the additional repairs were completed on June 27.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said before the road surface is re-tared, road safety and warning signs will be erected at the site, and re-taring of the road portion was set to be completed by July 6.
