Tributes pour in for late member of BAE and former teacher of Bedfordview Primary

Many of Anna’s former learners have fond memories of her while numerous Bedfordview residents enjoy memories of Anna’s teaching.

Anna Tindell, a longstanding resident of Bedfordview, and a congregant of Bedfordview Methodist Church, recently passed away at the age of 97 on June 17.

Anna, her husband and her family relocated to Bedfordview in the early 1960s.

She taught at Bedfordview Primary School until her retirement in 1986.

She taught biology and also needlework. Many of her needlework pupils won awards at the Rand Show, year after year.

Anna would take Standard Five (Grade Seven) learners on tour every year.

After retiring in 1986, Anna joined the Bedfordview Association for the Elderly (BAE) and soon started taking members away with her on her travels.

Many members have wonderful memories of trips to Russia, Croatia, Buenos Aires, and annual trips to Namaqualand.

Anna visited Namaqualand for 30 years consecutively.

Janet Brodrick, chairperson of the Bedfordview Association for the Elderly, said her first trip with Anna was to Lesotho to view the Khatse Dam.

“I also went to Mozambique, and once to Namaqualand which was a wonderful 10-day bus trip. BAE visited Margate every year until Skippers’ Cabin closed,” said Janet.

Many of Anna’s former learners have fond memories of her while numerous Bedfordview residents enjoy memories of Anna’s teaching.

Additionally, many longstanding BAE members love to share memories of Anna’s activities.
Janet said she influenced numerous people for the good.
