Bedfordview SAPS warns of crime hotspots

In the latest report from Bedfordview SAPS, between April and June 2024, they recorded 24 carjackings, 17 kidnappings, and eight truck hijackings.

Despite notable successes in arrests and seizures, Bedfordview SAPS have warned of persisting crime hotspots.

With hijackings, kidnappings, and truck hijackings remaining a major concern.

As stated by the station’s communication liaison officer, Sergeant Lillian Modiga, in the latest report from Bedfordview SAPS, between April and June 2024, they recorded 24 carjackings, 17 kidnappings, and eight truck hijackings.

The hotspots identified by police include Kraft off-ramp N12, Linksfield off-ramp N3, Van Buuren on and off-ramp N3, Edenvale off-ramp N12, Edenvale off-ramp R24, Barbara Road corner Olifants Road, and Tunney Industrial area, Elandsfontein.

Arrests made include six suspects for hijackings on Kraft Road, three suspects for murder, attempted murder, and armed robberies on Dassie Road in Elandsfontein, and three suspects for R24 freeway hijackings.

Police seized firearms and police uniforms with blue lights.

Modiga has warned drivers to be alert at all times, especially when stopped by alleged police officers in uniform with blue lights.

“Driver to your nearest filling station or police station. Avoid giving lifts to unknown people, and report suspicious vehicles following you to your company to activate the tracker,” she added.

The Bedfordview SAPS commends the teamwork and community groups as well as CPF, private security and other stakeholders for collaborating to combat crime.

They urge continued collaboration to address the persisting hotspots and ensure the safety of the community.

“Our hotspots are still giving us headaches and we working on it as a team but the arrests and seizures so far are pleasing. This is only because of teamwork and passion for the safety of our communities,” said Modiga.
