Local dogs compete in the annual championship

Mikado got reserve best of breed under Sally and received best in show under Nicky.

The Utility Breeds Club of Gauteng hosted its annual championship show at Goldfields Kennel Club Dog Show Grounds.

Held on June 23 two shows were hosted namely group one, best in show and group two, reserve in show.

The judges were Sally Burns from Ireland who was specially invited to come and judge the event while the second show was judged by Nicky Redtenbacher from South Africa.

For best in show first place went to Vanessa Nicolau’s Chow Mikado.

Mikado was shown by Vanessa at the competition.

Imported from Italy the five-year-old Chow’s full title is Supreme Champion Mikado the Emperor dei Leoni Imperiali for Kimekai.

Mikado is also health tested and certified for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions and patellar luxation.

Although Mikado was awarded best in show for the first show from Sally his accolades did not end there.

Vanessa said Mikado got reserve best of breed under Sally and received best in show under Nicky.

Not to be outdone nine-year-old Quest the Dalmatian won best veteran in show.

Quest is owned and was shown by Carol Immelman.
