Boxers battle it out for a title at Emperors

Germiston’s Bryan Thysse took on Sanele Mbatha in their light heavyweight contest on the undercard of the bill.

Primrose’s South African Junior Middleweight champion, Shervantaigh Koopman defeated Wendy “Haitian Fire” Toussaint to capture the IBO Inter Continental Junior Middleweight title on June 15.

He faced off against Toussaint of the USA on the undercard of the No Mercy Box and Dine Tournament at Emperors Palace.

Koopman, who trains in Edenvale at Brian Mitchells Boxing Academy, spent most of the 10-round bout chasing after Toussaint who kept dancing away from the South African but the local fighter managed to land enough good punches to earn himself a unanimous points victory.

The judges scored the fight 98-92, 96-94 and 97-93, in Koopman’s favour.

The latter’s victory on the undercard of the No Mercy Box and Dine Tournament takes Koopman to 14-0 while Toussaint goes to 15-3.

Thysse proved too good for Mbatha, knocking the latter out in the third round of their fight which was scheduled for four rounds. Thysse now has four wins from four professional fights.
