Delivery driver shot and killed during robbery in Elandsfontein

Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered an Albany Bakeries truck crashed into a street power line pole.

A bread delivery turned bloody with one victim declared dead on the scene.

The driver along with his colleagues were making deliveries on the morning of June 13 in Elandsfontein when they were approached by two unknown suspects.

Bedfordview police spokesperson Lillian Modiga said the suspects approached the crew, demanding money at gunpoint while they were delivering bread to a spaza shop in Elandsfontein.

Modiga said Sergeant Bembe from Bedfordview SAPS responded to the shooting incident at 14 Haartebees Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered an Albany Bakeries truck crashed into a street power line pole.

“Inside the truck, he found one male victim fatally wounded by a gunshot to the chest.

“His colleagues informed law enforcement that after they had delivered the bread one of them remained inside the shop for payment.

“As the driver and others were waiting inside the truck they were approached by two unknown suspects,” explained Modiga.

One colleague attempted to fight off the suspects, hitting one with the door of the truck before fleeing.

“The suspects fired two shots that hit the crew who was inside the truck. One person was hit on the right index finger and the driver was hit in the chest.

“They managed to drive about 100m before he collided with a street power line.

“Emergency responders declared the driver dead on the scene,” she added.

No suspects have been arrested the police are requesting for anyone with information to contact the Bedfordview SAPS on 011 457 2215.
