Bedfordview SAPS arrests three bogus cops

They are facing charges of impersonating an officer as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police arrested three bogus cops alleged to be part of the blue lights gang, on June 3 at around 21:00.

This follows information received by the EMPD and SAPS.

The suspects have been linked to crimes including robberies on the freeway using a double cab bakkie.

They are facing charges of impersonating an officer as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The occupants of this bakkie are five suspects in police uniforms and have blue lights on the dashboard,” said Bedfordview SAPS’s corporate communication officer Lillian Modiga.

The arrest came after the suspects robbed a victim of his firearm on the R24 Freeway. They held him at gunpoint on June 2.

“The operation was activated and led the members to Norkem Park in Birchleigh.

“On arrival the three suspects were identified sitting on the pavement.

“A search took place and the suspects led the members to a yard where a vehicle was found and identified as the same vehicle used in the commission of crime,” she added.

Upon searching the vehicle the police found the following items: blue lights, jammer instruments with batteries, police uniforms, five pistols with ammunition, a rifle with ammunition and four pistols with serial numbers scratched off.

The one pistol was a positive match belonging to the victim as per the case opened in Bedfordview.
Police have detained the suspects.
